The United State’s entire orange juice supply is being tested by the Food and Drug Administration for an illegal fungicide after it was found in products imported from Brazil.

U.S. health regulators said on Wednesday they expect to release testing results for the fungicide called carbendazim that is illegal for U.S. citrus by the end of the week.

‘We hope to have some quality-checked results by the end of the week,’ said Siobhan DeLancey, an FDA spokeswoman.

Found: Low levels of the fungicide carbendazim have been found in the U.S. after their import from Brazil, the top grower accounting for more than 10 percent of the U.S. supply

The chemical commonly used in Brazil to fight mold on orange trees has so far been found in low levels in the juice according to officials and were not considered dangerous.

Brands such as Tropicana, from PepsiCo Inc, and Minute Maid, from Coca-Cola Co, may use a mix of juices sourced from Brazil and the United States.

An FDA spokeswoman said the company’s testing found levels up to 35 parts per billion of the fungicide, far below the European Union’s maximum residue level of 200 parts per billion.

Freshly Squeezed’s 2nd year at the Michigan Restaurant Association show in Novi proved to be very fruitful. Sp to speak. Within days Zumex juicers have appeared in three new cities: in the very capital of MI, Lansing, Vernon and Tomiko Richard form Juice Nation set up a Zumex Essential (Z100) prominently behind their cash register. Stonehouse Coffee and Tea in Northville also set up a Zumex Essential juicer to add fresh squeezed orange juice and lemonade to their beverage selection. After doing much research owner Bob Stefanovsky realized that in finer coffee and tea establishments, patrons appreciate and respect the fresh squeezed juice option leading to greater overall sales and broader clientele. Many coffee and tea drinkers are often big beverage drinkers and would love to have healthy sweet option from time to time. Also in Northville the grand daddy of all restaurants George Senate’s Coney Island set up a Zumex Versatile Pro (Z250) with podium for his breakfast and brunch crowd. Finally, our greatest success after the show was negotiating Zumex Verstile into Detroit airport. In the next couple of weeks you will be able to enjoy the only fresh glass of orange juice served in the entire airport in the Online Café.
