Zummo vs Zumex Juicers: What’s The Difference?

by Ryan

If you’ve been around the juicing industry for a while or are just getting into it, you may have noticed there are only two or three choices when it comes to commercial citrus juicers.

Zumex and Zummo are two of the biggest brands in the citrus juicing world. They both make great machines, but they aren’t the same.

We sell both Zummo and Zumex juice machines, so we know both brands very well. In this article, I will show you the differences between these two brands so you can make an informed decision.

Let’s get started.

 Zummo vs Zumex Juicer Comparison

When looking at these two juicer brands, here are the main differences to consider:

Juice Quality

glasses of juice

Many people think all juice is the same. You squeeze the oranges, and the juice comes out. How could the machine make a difference?

Trust me, it does.

The Zummo machines use a single fruit chamber that reduces the contact of the juice with the peel when it is being squeezed. This is important because the peels have a very bitter taste which can make the juice more bitter.

I am sure at some point you have had a glass of OJ that was bitter, that’s because there was a lot of contact with the juice and the peel.

Another reason you want less contact between the juice and the peel is that the peels usually have pesticides on them and you don’t want the pesticides getting into the juice for obvious reasons.

Yield

Yield refers to the amount of juice you get from each fruit. Obviously, the more juice you can get out of an orange, the better.

Zummo uses the EVS Advanced System, which is characterized by grooved balls and its ribbed blade. This system is made to mimic hand juicing done by a machine.

They say this system has a greater yeild, by 10%. Of course, all manufacturers like to say their machines are the best. Below is a video we did years back comparing the Zummo Z40 and the Zumex Speed, the fastest machines for both companies. Have a watch and see for yourself, while the video is older, the technology and machines they make today are very similar.

Speed

We just touched on it a bit above when we talked about the yield, but there are different models of each than the 2 used in the demonstration above.

Obviously the speed will vary by model, while to top Zummo machine is faster than the top Zumex machine, the other Zumex machine models tend to juice more fruits per minute than comparable Zummo machines

If we are just basing it on fruits squeezed per minute, the Zumex machine models are faster except for the top machines.

Price

Of course, everyone wants to know which machine costs less. Who doesn’t want to keep more money in their pocket?

Truth be told, the prices of these machines are pretty similar. Zumex might be a little more expensive, but not by much. And it will depend on the model. Plus, there are a ton of options you can get with these machines that will make the price fluctuate quite a bit.

Overall, Zumex and Zummo are both in the same ballpark price-wise, and you are not going to see a big difference between the two. However, Zumex tends to be a little more.

Versatility

Pomegranate juicer from zumex

While juicing oranges is what often comes to mind there are more citrus fruits out there that these machines will juice.

In fact, most of the machines from both manufacturers will juice a variety of citrus fruits but they both have machines that are dedicated to certain fruits.

For example, Zummo makes the Z40 LM, which is specifically calibrated to juice limes and lemons, although it is capable of juicing all forms of citrus fruits.

Zumex has the Zumex Speed For Pomegranates. As you can guess from the name, this machine is calibrated to juice pomegranates specifically, but it can also juice other citrus fruits.

You may think juicing all fruits is the same except for size but there is also the toughness of the peels to consider as well as the toughness of the fruit inside of the peel.

For example, pomegranate peels are much tougher than orange peels, and so is the fruit on the inside. Therefore, while you can juice a pomegranate with a juicer that is calibrated for oranges, it won’t get you the same yield as a machine that is specifically calibrated for pomegranates. The same goes for lemons and limes, which also have tougher peels than oranges.

If you are going to be juicing mostly limes, lemons, or pomegranates, you might want to consider getting a machine that is designed to juice those fruits.

Wrap Up

There you have the comparison of Zummo and Zumex citrus juicers. They clearly are not the same, each has it’s strengths and weaknesses.

Both are quality machines and you really can’t go wrong with either brand but the differences in taste of the juice, speed and versatility are particularly notable.
